Refuse to Lose (2010)

Performance Guidelines:

1. A 16 ounce beer must be ingested every three minutes.

2. Throw the following forms using all the clay allotted, keeping consistent walls and in sequence: Bowl, Cylinder, Sphere, Vase, Wine bottle, Four teacups, Goblet, Butt plug, Pie plate with a scalloped edge, punch bowl, Teapot off the hump and doughnut.

3. A do-over costs one piece of clothing (until only underwear is left)

4. The individual who completes the most forms before throwing up wins.  In order to win, one must vomit.  If all forms are completed and the individual has not vomited they must consecutively bong a beer at a two minute interval until one individual vomits, thus winning.

Description: “ProVide Marketplace, Coming Soon!” appears on the oldest indoor mall in America. Web and physical events promising a new farmers market in the long-dormant Arcade Building in downtown Providence, RI, as the announcement creates public excitement. Results are extensive news coverage and discussion of vacant retail space.

Description: Based on Paul McCarthy’s Painter, Craftswoman documents a 1-hour performance in which unconventional media such air-dry clay, resin, glitter, and crystal, were thrown on a pottery wheel replacing ceramic, glaze and the firing process.
